Here’s me hosting a benefit for the nonprofit education program “Create Now.” I apologize for how shaky the camera is - I performed the set during a 13 minute long earthquake. Didn’t miss a single joke!
This always makes me think of my incredible friend Noman who passed away earlier this year. He died of cancer at the age of 25. Reports from family and friends say he was very accepting of his fate after chemotherapy failed. He said he had a great life.
It breaks my heart every day that he is gone, despite him being someone I hadn’t seen that much in the last couple of years. I often get too busy but I talked about him frequently.
A few months ago I got a memorial tattoo in his honor. I totally get why people do that now, as my hand instinctually goes to it every time I think about him. Every time someone asks about my tattoo I take it as an opportunity to talk about what a great person he was.
Sometimes, I see house teams do shows in which they technically get everything right: clear premises, getting on the same page, careful listening, speaking truthfully and logical heightening.
But the show was boring.
What is needed is: swagger. A posture of confidence. Without that, a house team…
